SAT & ACT Tuition
Private TuitionFocused preparation for students applying to universities in the United States.
Treberys Private provides one-to-one SAT and ACT tuition for students in London and internationally, including those preparing for US university applications alongside A Levels, the IB or another school curriculum.
Preparation begins with the individual student. Tutors identify existing strengths, areas requiring attention and familiarity with the test before developing a focused programme across the relevant sections.
Support is available in person and online, and may be arranged as standalone test preparation or alongside Treberys Private's wider US university admissions work.
Preparing for the SAT & ACT
The SAT and ACT assess overlapping academic skills, but their format, pace and structure differ. Good preparation therefore requires familiarity with the particular test as well as secure underlying knowledge.
The Digital SAT consists of Reading and Writing and Mathematics. Each section is divided into two modules, with performance in the first module helping to determine the difficulty of the second. This adaptive structure makes familiarity with the format, pacing and different question types particularly important.
The ACT currently comprises core sections in English, Mathematics and Reading, with Science and Writing available as optional sections. It places different demands on timing and question style, and some students may find one test better suited to their strengths than the other.
Treberys Private tutors can begin with diagnostic work to establish the student's starting point and identify where preparation should be concentrated. For some students, the greatest gains come from strengthening particular areas of Mathematics or English. Others already possess the underlying knowledge but need to improve timing, accuracy, familiarity with the digital format or the way they approach unfamiliar questions.
Preparation can include targeted teaching, timed practice, official-style questions, full-length practice tests and detailed review of errors.
For students studying A Levels or the IB, SAT or ACT preparation must also fit sensibly around an already demanding academic timetable. We therefore structure tuition around the student's wider commitments rather than treating test preparation in isolation.
How we support students
Diagnostic assessment
Initial diagnostic work to establish the student's starting point, identify areas of strength and weakness, and determine where preparation time will be most effectively spent. This can also help inform the choice between SAT and ACT where appropriate.
Reading & Writing
Targeted preparation in comprehension, inference, evidence, vocabulary, grammar and effective expression. Tutors develop the underlying skills required while building familiarity with the particular style and pace of SAT or ACT questions.
Mathematics
Focused support across the mathematical content required for the student's chosen test. Tuition identifies gaps in knowledge, strengthens problem solving and develops the ability to apply mathematical understanding accurately under timed conditions.
Test strategy & pacing
Preparation for the timing, structure and demands of the test itself. Students learn how to allocate time effectively, approach unfamiliar questions, reduce avoidable errors and make sound decisions when working under pressure.
Practice tests & review
Structured use of full-length and targeted practice to measure progress and expose remaining weaknesses. Tutors review errors carefully so that practice informs subsequent teaching rather than becoming an exercise in repeatedly completing papers.
Application planning
Test preparation can be coordinated with the student's wider US university plans, including testing dates, school commitments and application deadlines. Where broader admissions support is required, tuition can sit alongside Treberys Private's university advisory work.
Finding the right SAT or ACT tutor
Effective test preparation requires someone who understands the particular assessment as well as the academic skills behind it.
We consider the student's baseline performance, areas requiring attention, intended test, timetable and wider academic commitments before recommending a tutor.
Some students require balanced support across the whole assessment. Others may already be strong readers but need specialist Mathematics support, or possess excellent subject knowledge while struggling with timing and test strategy.
Tutors are selected accordingly, with attention to test familiarity, subject expertise and personal fit rather than simply assigning a general academic tutor.
This follows our wider approach to Private Tuition: the requirement is understood first, and the tutor selected around the individual student.
SAT & ACT tuition in London & internationally
Treberys Private provides SAT and ACT tuition in London and internationally, with support available both in person and online.
Many of the students we support are preparing for American university applications while studying within British or international schools outside the United States.
Online tuition allows students to work with test specialists regardless of location, while London-based families may choose in-person, online or blended arrangements.
For students completing British qualifications, test preparation can be planned carefully around existing A Level tuition or IB tuition and the demands of the school year.
Testing within the wider US admissions process
SAT and ACT scores are only one part of an American university application, and testing policies vary between institutions.
For some families, the requirement is straightforward: provide focused preparation for a test already selected. In that case, tuition remains entirely centred on the assessment.
Where broader guidance is needed, Treberys Private's University Admissions work can sit alongside tuition, allowing testing strategy, university selection and the wider application timetable to be considered together.
This is particularly useful for international students balancing US applications with A Levels, the IB or applications to universities in other countries.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
The SAT is a digital assessment comprising Reading and Writing and Mathematics.
Each section contains two modules. The test is adaptive between modules, meaning the second module presented to the student is influenced by their performance in the first.
Preparation therefore involves both the academic content of the test and familiarity with its digital structure, timing and question types.
-
The Reading and Writing section assesses areas including comprehension, evidence, vocabulary in context, grammar and effective expression.
The Mathematics section covers Algebra, Advanced Mathematics, Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, and Geometry and Trigonometry.
A good preparation programme identifies which of these areas genuinely require academic work rather than treating every element equally.
-
The current ACT contains core sections in English, Mathematics and Reading.
Science and Writing are optional sections. Where a student intends to take either, preparation can be extended accordingly.
Because the structure and timing differ from the SAT, the appropriate test can depend partly on the individual student's strengths and working style.
-
There is no universal answer.
The two tests assess many related skills but differ in format, pacing and emphasis. Diagnostic work can help establish whether a student appears better suited to one format.
The decision should also take account of the universities under consideration and their current admissions policies.
-
The appropriate starting point depends on the student's baseline performance, target testing dates and wider academic commitments.
For many students applying from the UK or an international school, preparation takes place alongside Year 12 study or the first year of the IB Diploma. Beginning with sufficient time allows weaknesses to be addressed properly and leaves scope for practice and, where appropriate, a later test sitting.
Students who already perform strongly may require a shorter and more targeted programme.

Treberys Private supports students in London and across the UK preparing for US university applications, with tuition available in person in London and online more widely.
We also work with international students applying to American universities from schools around the world.

This is an important consideration for many of the students we support. SAT or ACT preparation should not unnecessarily compromise performance in a student's main school curriculum.
We therefore plan tuition around existing academic demands, examination periods and university application deadlines.
-
No.
Admissions policies differ between universities and can change between application cycles. Some institutions require testing, some are test optional and others follow different policies.
Where a family requires guidance on testing strategy within the wider application, our University Admissions work can consider the requirements of the individual universities being targeted.

SAT or ACT tuition can be arranged entirely as a standalone service.
Where broader support is required, Treberys Private can also advise on university selection, application strategy and the wider US admissions process alongside test preparation.
