7+, 11+ & 13+ Tuition
Private TuitionThoughtful preparation for entry to leading UK independent schools.
Treberys Private provides one-to-one tuition for students preparing for 7+, 11+ and 13+ entry to leading independent schools in London and across the UK.
Preparation is shaped around the individual child, the schools under consideration and the requirements of each admissions process. This may include English and Mathematics, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, school-specific assessments, pre-tests, interview preparation and wider academic development.
We work with families in London and internationally, with tuition available in person, online and, where appropriate, as part of a wider school placement or educational programme.
Preparing for 7+, 11+ and 13+ entry
There is no single entrance examination shared by every independent school. Requirements vary according to age, school and entry point, and may include written papers, computerised assessments, interviews, group activities, reasoning tests or combinations of these.
Good preparation therefore begins with understanding exactly what a child is preparing for.
At 7+, the emphasis is usually on developing secure foundations in English and Mathematics while introducing the child carefully to the style and pace of an entrance assessment. At this age in particular, preparation should remain engaging and proportionate. The aim is not simply to rehearse examination papers, but to develop the confidence, fluency and independence a child will need on the day.
At 11+, preparation may become broader and more competitive. Depending on the schools being considered, students may need support across English, Mathematics, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning, alongside interview preparation and school-specific papers.
At 13+, requirements can vary considerably. Some schools use the ISEB Common Pre-Test or their own pre-tests before later assessment, while others require Common Entrance, individual school papers or interviews. Preparation may therefore begin well in advance and develop alongside the student's normal school curriculum.
Treberys Private coordinates tuition around the actual admissions pathway rather than treating 7+, 11+ or 13+ as a generic examination.
How we support students
7+ preparation
Age-appropriate preparation for entry at 7+, strengthening the foundations of English and Mathematics while gradually introducing the style, pace and expectations of school entrance assessments. The emphasis remains on confidence, fluency and academic curiosity rather than excessive examination practice.
11+ preparation
Structured preparation for competitive 11+ entry, tailored to the requirements of the schools under consideration. Support may include English, Mathematics, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, timed practice, examination technique and school-specific assessments.
13+ preparation
Preparation for 13+ entry, including the ISEB Common Pre-Test, Common Entrance, school-specific papers, scholarship assessments and interviews where required. Programmes are planned around the student's current school, target schools and admissions timeline.
English & Mathematics
Focused tuition in the core subjects that underpin most school entrance assessments. English may include comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and creative writing, while Mathematics combines secure curriculum knowledge with problem solving, accuracy and unfamiliar question types.
Verbal & non-verbal reasoning
Targeted support with reasoning assessments, introducing students to different question types and developing vocabulary, pattern recognition, accuracy and effective working under time constraints. Preparation is designed to build familiarity without relying on repetitive drilling.
Interviews & school-specific preparation
Preparation for interviews and the particular requirements of individual schools. Tutors help students communicate naturally, discuss their interests with confidence and respond thoughtfully to unfamiliar questions, while academic preparation can be adapted to specific admissions formats.
Finding the right entrance tutor
The right tutor depends on far more than the examination being taken.
We consider the child's age, academic profile, personality, current school, target schools, available preparation time and any particular areas requiring attention before recommending a tutor.
For a seven-year-old preparing for a first competitive entrance assessment, warmth, judgement and experience with younger children may be every bit as important as academic credentials. An older student preparing for demanding 13+ papers may require deeper subject expertise and experience of a particular assessment route.
Our tutors include experienced teachers, graduates of leading universities and specialists in UK independent-school entrance. Every introduction is considered individually, with attention to both academic expertise and personal fit.
Where several areas of preparation are required, Treberys Private can coordinate more than one tutor while maintaining a single point of oversight for the family.
Tuition in London & internationally
Treberys Private provides school entrance tuition in London and supports families preparing for UK school entry from overseas.
Tuition may take place in the family home, online or through a combination of the two. For families dividing their time between countries, we can maintain continuity as travel and school terms change.
We also work with international families whose children are moving from American, IB or other international curricula into the British system. In these circumstances, entrance preparation may sit alongside broader academic bridging to ensure the student is prepared not only for the admissions process but for the transition into their new school.
More intensive arrangements, including holiday programmes and residential tutors, can also be considered where appropriate.
Tuition within the wider admissions process
Entrance preparation works best when it reflects a considered school strategy.
A strong examination performance is important, but the wider question remains whether a school is right for the individual child and the years ahead.
Treberys Private's School Placement work can sit alongside tuition where a family requires wider support. This may include identifying suitable schools, planning application timelines, managing admissions, preparing for interviews and assessments, coordinating school visits and supporting the eventual transition.
For families who already have their target schools confirmed, we can provide tuition as a standalone service.
For those still considering their options, bringing school advisory and academic preparation together allows both to follow one coherent plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
